Tom Herter: Gemeindegründung. Ekklesiologische Perspektiven auf ein freikirchliches Phänomen: The founding of new congregations is typical for free churches. There are many publications with practical instructions for this, but only a few isolated systematic theological treatises. The founding of a new church is a specific process aimed at building a new, selfreliant, local church that makes known the gospel of Christ. Such a fellowship is based on God’s initiative. This is manifested in baptism, communion, and the proclamation of the gospel, which also includes counselling and practical help. The church is a creation and resonance chamber of the word of God, wakens faith and fellowship of faith (which is not identical with mere social interaction). The founding of new churches follows from the mission of the church, which is the gathering place for believers, where the fellowship of believers is built up.
Klaus Schönberg: Replant. Eine sterbende Gemeinde neu gründen: Churches have a life-cycle, a period of downturn can develop into a dying phase. However, dying churches can be reanimated by God. A presupposition for this is that the church recognises its misery and does not define itself by its glorious past. A new beginning should be initiated as early as possible and not be impeded by false self-perceptions or refusal to suffer. The “replant” conception involves starting anew, whereby toxic cultures, dysfunctional structures and obstructive traditions must be discarded. Therefore, in the case of a replant, the existing work of the church is shut down and new work under the leadership of a replant team initiated. This process imposes high demands on the replanters and remaining church members.
Siegbert Riecker: Nicht systemrelevant?! Die dreifache Antwort der Kirche auf die Säkularisierung: The realisation that churches in Europe are not system-relevant is but a small symptom of the profound movement of secularisation during the last centuries that has been analysed by Lesslie Newbigin, Charles Taylor and others. The gap between church and post-Christian culture can be illustrated by four external (intellectual) barriers of the gospel, which are accepted as “facts” in western society. Liberal and orthodox strategies of the churches to bridge the gap are promising only in a limited way. The author recommends to tackle the internal barriers of the gospel and pleads for a new passion for the supernatural in the everyday life (re-enchantment, Paul Gould), which will by itself regenerate the social attractiveness of the Christian way of life.
